We went for the reasonably priced drinks and had the MOST fabulous calamari. Hot out of the fryer and served with a buffalo style sauce. Very very tasty. I would go back for that alone.

Wow, I'm blown away that anyone could give this place 5 stars! How much tequila DID you drink? This chain serves sub-par psuedo Mexican fare in a loud, chaotic environment. The salsa is watery and tastes like confused, angry tomatoes. The cheese quesadillas will get hard and can be used as weapons if you just let them cool. Please, people understand - this is not Mexican, it is a corporation that is trying to line its pockets. Please, please don't allow yourself to accept this junk for the real thing. You deserve better!

Clearly the good reviews are driven by people that have been drinking. Nachos and Margarita drink specials typically don't count as a basis for a review of Mexican food. Wife and boy went for some comfort food - after 9 years in Texas we know good Mexican. This is not it. Greasy quesadilla that my 5 year old wouldn't touch. Rice filled burritos with mediocre flavors. If this place can stay in business and prosper it lends more credence to my opinion that good Mexican food is hard to come by in the NYC/NJ area - why is this? The Englewood branch is no better and has somehow managed to be successful enough to expand - amazing.

Blue Moon is a good restaurant to have drinks and appetizers at the bar. It's a casual place to go with friends... I wouldn't recommend it for a special date. Service is good and fast and the people are friendly. If you can, skip the dining room. It feels a little dated - plus it gets very loud and there always seems to be kids running around....

Very bad experience last evening. Went for dinner and drinks on a Thursday night. Place was packed, waited a half hour for seating. Ordered the double combo bean burrito and beef enchilada with black beans and guacamole (extra $2). Was brought chicken enchilada and refried beans. When I asked for the right order, plate was brought back with correct beans but guacamole missing and still no beef enchilada. I'm flexible, so I went with it. As I'm eating the beans I bite into something hard. There was actually a stone in my beans. No kidding. I guess the cook didn't bother rinsing them out before preparing. The waitress had no idea margaritas were supposed to be $5 after 9pm on a Thursday like their flier said. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Bill was brought including the $2 guacamole that mysteriously disappeared from my plate when the beans were switched. Horrible night, will never return. Food not authentic mexican. You get better salsa out of a chi-chi's can. Beware.

Blue Moon is terrible!! It's a poorly maintained franchised restaurant that serves overpriced bad Mexican food. You must have been high if you thought blue moon was good.

I LOVE Blue Moon. Now they have new "burritos in the buff" which is any of their giant burritos striped down sans tortilla. my boyfriend and i go here all the time. It's also fun for a few drinks with my girlfriends. Great outdoor patio for the summer.

We are new to the area, and I'd driven by so we thought we'd check it out. Granted it was a Saturday night; the wait was horrible. The hostess had NO idea how to estimate timing, she initially told us 30 minutes. When we told her we would want a highchair for our infant, we noticed people who came in after us were getting seated before us...when questioned, she told us we now required a table of three, which is why we were still waiting...She never told us that before..Anyhow, after that long wait I don't think I'll ever be back. Besides the prices are a little high for a place of that caliber...I can go to a nice Mexican restaurant where I can make reservations and have a nice experience.

I really like this place. So why I am giving it 3 stars? First, you can never sit in the main dining room. Well, at least I can't sit there. Depending on the time of day, the main dining room turns into a cross between Chuck E Cheese and a kindergarten playground. Kids are running around everywhere. I can't even hear myself think. Sit in the bar area. They've got 4 or 5 tables back there. If you have children, disregard that note. Stay away from the bar. Eat in the romper room section. Leave me in peace and quiet in the bar. Please. Second, the ambience needs to be kicked up a little bit. So why do I go there? The food is good enough to make up for it. Margaritas are really good. I start out with a margarita, chips and salsa, and an order of guacamole. Ask them to make the guac spicy. If not, it is a little bland. I've had enchiladas combination, quesadillas (pick your ingredients), and fish tacos. These are all really solid entrees. I've had some of the other food. The chili is OK. Not great. The wings are OK. Not great. Stick with my picks and you'll be in good shape.

If you like Tex-Mex this restaurant is ok, but if you like more authentic Mexican food go to Cinco de Mayo in Hillsdale.

Small restaurant with tight table seating. Outdoor dining in the summer though it is located at a busy intersection so it can be noisy. Extended parking is down the hill in the back right of the lot. The food is about as Americanized as Mexican food can get. I'll start with the positive: Full moon and blue moon chili are delicious Black bean soup is delicious Guacamole is generally very good Many vegetarian and diet options (offering whole wheat tortillas is a nice touch) Decent margarita Service is usually excellent Now the negative: The menu has changed several times since opening - they can't seem to find the right formula (hint to owner, delicious food is the only formula you need). Chips can be great but generally have a stale and oily taste Salsa can be good but when it isn't - wow! Chili con queso is bland and floury Jalapeno poppers are straight out of the box in your nearest frozen food aisle Quesadillas are bland - flour tortillas have no color, cheese is barely melted with a smear of salsa and some jalapeno slices on top Nachos are always soggy and if you're unfortunate enough to hit a night when the salsa is bad you're completely out of luck as it saturates the nachos Salads are just ok. The one time I ordered the grilled veggie salad I received chunks of iceberg with peppers and onions on top. I'll summarize the entree offerings with the following: Sauces taste canned, most food is bland, beef is tough and fatty, rice is bland and seems to be the main ingredient in their burritos. They serve "Pizza Mexicano" We used to go to lunch at Blue Moon once or twice per week, go to dinner/drinks and get take out quite a bit. We now only have it delivered on very rare occasions since the food has gone so far downhill. Not recommended to any real Mexican food enthusiast (or to anyone that likes fresh, delicious and creative food).

I love Blue Moon! I grew up in California and Blue Moon is one of the only decent places I've found in Bergen County for Mexican food. My favorite dish is the burrito with shrimp and pineapple. Also their plantain salad is really good too! Not overly priced either. Delicioso!

Good Place, Great Service, and Awesome food! I had a burrito and it was about 8 inches long and thicker than my fist and on top of that mmmmmmMmmmmm delicious. Why a 4 star then? Prices; It's expensive for a Mexican restaurant. For two people and no alcoholic drinks we spent about $45. It might just be that I'm not use to the areas prices either. Satisfied and will be back.

Love, love, love this place !!!! I met some friends at this restaurant for dinner on Wednesday evening and the staff as well as bartenders were so warm, and friendly ... They have a fantastic menu, the food was excellent and they have great drink specials for happy hour !! I'll definitely be back. I want to add, it's great to know they have take-out !!!! I live close-by so it's nice to know I can stop in, get good food and head home to eat ...

Not authentic mexican cuisine at all. Food was terrible and overpriced. Place was packed with families that must not know how much better, and cheaper, real mexican food is. Service was average at best. Stay away from this place.

Eh...so-so. Polite staff. Good service. Was surprised to see the Fajitas come out without a sizzling pan. My chicken quesadilla was tasty but overdone with cheese. Good free chips and salsa. Small place and tiny bar so felt a bit claustrophobic. Also very loud. Not horrible for a franchise...

Overpriced burritos that are stuffed with more rice than meat. We ordered take out told we would be paying by check. We were told that would be no problem. After receiving our order i get a call 10 minutes later... "we don't accept checks." i told them what i was told when i ordered and the gentleman on the other end rudely this time repeated "we don't accept checks". He then wanted a cc to which i told him i would be happy to do if his driver returned my check. He then repeats "we don't accept checks" confused now I simply repeated that if his driver returned my check i would give him a cc number and hung up. Never heard from them again. It is almost offensive to pay $16.00 plus for a rice filled burrito.

If I could give this place no stars I would! So here is how my experience went with Blue Moon Mexican Cafe. I called to see if we needed a reservation as we had 5 adults and 3 kids for dinner. I asked the young lady who answered the phone if how long the wait would be and if I needed a reservation. Her response was no we are not busy tonight and asked her if she would like my name as we would be there in about 30 minutes. She said no we don't need your name we are not busy, just come on over. So we packed up the kids (ages 10 to 15 months) as well as all the adults and headed off to dinner. 30 minutes later our party walks in the door, the place seems very busy. The young lady at the door says to one of the people in my party how many are you he says 8 5 adults and 3 children. As I walk up to the front because I am the one who called and know what was going on. Another women who looks like she is running the place says to me that the wait will be about 30 to 45 minute wait!!! I was a bit shocked as I had already spoken to another young lady and she knew that we were on our way. I explained to this women that I had called 30 minutes ago and spoken with one of the young women said that we didn't need a reservation that they were not busy tonight. Now I am being told that we have a wait. I was then told that they take reservations and I should have made one. I said I asked the young lady if I needed to make a reservation or if she wanted my name as we were a large party only to be told that it was not needed. She then looked at the 2 very young women at the door to confirm this information and they both had that dear in the spotlight look and shrugged their shoulders like I don't know! She then looked and me and said we have a lot of reservations and people here and I can't ask them to ask them to get up and move so you can have a table. I told her no need as we would be leaving. The people in my party where shocked and disappointed that this happened as now what are we going to do for dinner??? We then all walked outside and I started looking up other places we could go to dinner and that we would not have a long wait. This is not an easy task at 6:30pm on a Saturday Night right after Thanksgiving! Blue Moon Mexican Cafe - Sorry but I will not be giving you another try based on this experience and I am sad about that as I have been here before and it was really good.

Really? Is this what you call good Mexican food? Laughable. I'll preface this review by stating that im hispanic American, so I know what good Latino food should taste like. I had a chicken and cheese quesadilla and it straight up sucked. Honestly, taco bell serves a better chicken cheese quesadilla. It's crowded and noisy, the chips and salsa were blah, and the service was rather ordinary. I waited about 30 min to get a seat..what a waste of time. My wife and I agreed that we would never come back here...not because it was super horrible, but simply because you can find better Mexican food just about anywhere else. Btw, I don't mean to sound righteous/pompous, but the reviewers that give this place 5 stars need to explore more Mexican food joints...

I so wanted to love this place, as I am fairly new to the area and it's the only mexican place that I have come across. It's average at best. The margaritias are good, but quite pricey ($11.00). The service I received was very good, but the food just didn't seem to be the freshest.

  • Chas P.

Not sure what the deal here is but the food seems to be of less quality than what I have had here in the past. Taco platter ---all the tacos were mushy, little flavor, had the chips and sauce to start and the chips were 'stale" and tasteless. We have stayed away from here for a while, thought we might try again and looks like we might not go back---too bad I love good mex food

Standard Mexican food but not over the top. Small place so it wasn't hard to miss the kid screaming a few tables away. Wait staff was decent though my debit card was skimmed right after eating there, coincidence? Blue Moon leaves me still searching for great Mexican in Bergen county.

Not worth the money! The one positive was the waitress who was very nice and took our orders promptly. The chips and guacamole were the best part of my meal. I ordered shrimp / chicken fajitas and was quite disappointed. The peppers and onions had been cooked much earlier and were mushy / soggy from sitting too long. The flavor of chicken and shrimp was bland. The worst part of the whole experience was the atmosphere. I sat in the bar area and witnessed multiple staff members eating oranges from the bar. One of the bus boys was petting a waitress' hair at the bar. What appeared to be the manager was witnessing all of this and did nothing to correct it. I constantly saw servers walking in and out of the kitchen eating things. At one point there were about 6 waitstaff people hanging out at the bar area. The floors looked like they had not been swept or vaccumed and there were crusty hardened spots on the edge of the table. The atmosphere took away from the already poor quality food. Our bill for the night ended up $90 including tip, this was defenitely not a $90 dinner. High end prices for cheap food. Save your money

Blue Moon is good, but the annoying parts about it mentioned in some of the other reviews certainly ring true. The dining room does get loud whenever there's a large party with children there- as someone who isn't a fan of children in public places this is the biggest downside about this place. I guess you can't blame Blue Moon for the fact that a decent amount of their guests are rude loud mouths but it definitely detracts from the experience. Besides that Blue Moon is pretty good. The margaritas are tasty and have a decent amount of alcohol in them. Salsa and chips are refilled very quickly and both taste very fresh. I used to always order the burritos but have since stopped since they are too large and go WAY over board on rice (sort of a cop out in my opinion). This isn't a huge problem though since the rest of the menu is so good. My two current favorites are the chicken dish with mango salsa and the quesadilla's which ooze with cheese and lots of meat.

I have passed this place so many times through the years and never remember to bring it up to friends or dates. After finally getting an invitation to go there I was immediately hooked. I go for the triple play burrito or their fajitas. I enjoy Mexican food regardless, but this place is just delicious. And the drinks? Yes please! Sangria pitchers and A+ 'ritas warrant a return visit. So stoked they are opening up a new location where Blind Boar used to be in Norwood soon! So much closer and I have high hopes.

My mom loves this place. We go here frequently. I like there food and there service isn't bad. I like to get the chicken burritos with black beans and Mexican rice. There Guac is AMAZING. I could eat it for days. My favorite dessert is the chimichangas! They kill me I could easily gain 1,000 pounds from this place. I know the bartender Aris, real nice guy and makes great drinks! If you haven't already you should try this place out!

  • Jennifer M.

Place is horrible. The prices are outrages. My husband and I ordered guacamole and chicken, quesadillas. He got a warm beer and a mango drink. We spent 50 dollars. It was the worst meal I ever had. I could have gone to taco bell and got better. They used to be good but I guess with change of management it just went down hill.

  • Ed A.

Ok, I'm pretty sure no one walks into a Chili's clone in Bergen County NJ and expects amazing authentic Mexican food. However, the food here is just plain bland, whether your favorite Mexican food is dollar tacos from the carts in East LA or whether it's Taco Bell. Every dish I've tried tastes like absolutely nothing. On the plus size, portions are huge. I've yet to finish one of their standard sized burritos in one sitting. On the down side, a large portion of subpar food is still subpar. The lone bright spot in a restaurant devoid of charm and taste is the dessert menu, which contains an amazing cheesecake chimichangas dish that is absolutely slamming.

  • Lindsey W.

I've lived right down the road from the place and passed it a million times on my way to Park Ridge. I finally ate here with my boyfriends family and thought it was good! I got a club quesadilla and I really enjoyed it. The chips and salsa they give you at the beginning of dinner is a perfect start to the meal and the drinks were good. just a little cramped in the restaurant where we were seated. It was also right by the door so the traffic of people waiting on a Friday night was kind of distracting and loud.

One of my favorite place to come with my BFF! The bartender Aris is "A+++.!!" Aris never disappoints! From his on point margaritas to his food suggestions! He's the reason I return to Blue Moon! Great atmosphere! My go to place when in Jersey!

    (5)
  • Nicole V.

Not the best Mexican food I've ever had but hey, it's New Jersey. The service was nice during our work lunch and the restaurant is cute. I had the fish tacos. They were good but the rice and beans were just average. I almost spit out my food when I saw the woman at the next table put BBQ sauce on her burrito. I would go again just due to the proximity to my work.

Margarita w/Corona: C- This drink was mostly corona, the glass was pretty small and came with a very weak Margarita. Fajitas: F Forget the sizzling plate, you get semi warm meat shoved next to your rice & beans. Salsa: C- Not a fan. Steak & Avocado empanadas: C+ Pretty good but also fairly bland with fried corn tortilla & avocado trumping the 'flavor'. Not worth the $53 bill. It's a one & done with Blue Moon.

I think Blue Moon is really solid Tex-Mex. If you're going there and are expecting authentic Mexican food, you'll be disappointed, but it's definitely good Tex-Mex. Their $5 happy hour house margaritas are really good - and STRONG for happy hour margs, which is always a positive. You do have to sit in the bar though in order to get happy hour deals, which is worth noting. My standby was the Veghead burrito, which is a massive, veggie filled burrito with guac and/or sour cream ($2 extra if you want both). It is seriously enormous - big enough to eat at least half and take the rest home for a solid lunch the next day. Lately I've been switching to the combo platter, and trying out the different variations of taco/burrito/chimichanga/etc, which comes with a huge portion of rice and your choice of black or refried beans (black for me, always). I believe for a choice of two off of a list (that include chicken, beef, or vegetarian options for each), it's $11.50, and $14.50 for three choices. I definitely think that for the portion size that you get, it's well worth the money, especially for a really solid house marg (on the rocks, no salt).

Our favorite Mexican place and we feel like we are home there. Great drinks by Aris, great managers and greeters by Ziggy and Mariseo concerned food and drinks are to perfection. We keep coming back for a reason.

This is strictly a bar and drink review. Came here during happy hour and was able to find two seats facing the wall in the corner of the bar (first come, first served). Went up to the bar to order two margaritas, and the bartender was definitely not nice or welcoming. The drinks themselves were nothing special - tasted way too much like sour mix. The seat I was sitting on was so wobbly that I actually thought it may break. The table was sticky, the menus were sticky. It felt more like a dark, dingy dive bar than a Mexican restaurant. Would definitely not come here again. The one in Englewood is 10 times better. At least in terms of atmosphere.

This place food and drinks are GREAT. Aris the bar tender is very informative and gives great suggestions. The fried cheesecake is a MUST!! You cant go wrong with great food (try anything with the mole) at a reasonable price, great drinks and great service

  • Julia C. C.

It's not a real Mexican food. The employee they hire are all the teenagers, high school students. So the service isn't very good, since it's over packed during the meal time, and service are not very professional. So I don't recommend this place for dinner. The decoration isn't that well either, it has nothing related to Mexico. if you don't walk into it, you will never know it's a Mexican food.

I got a bottle of wine here that was re-corked. I say that because this is the first time I've ever gotten a bottle of wine where the seal was cut off previous to getting to the table. Also, the cork was a sheathed natural cork, and it was not stained by the wine on the end where the cork was raw. Server did not listen to the answers to her own questions, when she brought me black beans after asking me if I want black or refried and I answered refried. They consider her to be one of the better servers because she was training the newbie. This is also the first time I had a Mexican combination platter that had absolutely no melted cheese sprinkled on it. However the Apple dessert was incredible! Not overly sweet and just tart enough.

Sadly, used to be so much better when they first opened. Quality and service have gone down. I do hope they find their inner spark again as it is a really cute spot and their salads are still good. Last time I was there, the busboy provided the best service. Kudos to our busboy.

Having both visited the restaurant and ordered delivery numerous times, I'm honestly shocked that this location has a 2.5 star rating. I have a lot of great memories of stopping by most days during the summer, and devouring the double combination platter that I ordered every single time. I've tried the burger as well, and have to say that most places that specialize in burgers don't make them as delicious. The fiesta salad was another favorite, but I would recommend that newcomers try the combination platter (double or triple). I've experimented with trying different things, and would highly recommend anything on the list. Most recently I ordered delivery while I was back in town - it arrived in under 30 minutes which is pretty impressive! I also love that they included extra taco shells with the order, since sometimes they tend to get soggy and break apart in the containers. The portions are also huge, with generous servings of rice and beans that I ended up enjoying later on with my dinner. All in all I don't understand where all the hate comes from -- this is a perfect place to visit when you're in the mood for some quick, delicious Tex-Mex. Our order (one double combo and one triple combo) came to around $30 with tax and tip, which seems perfectly reasonable to me. Will definitely continue to order from them when I'm in the area!

I want to love this place but I simply can't! The food is okay, it used to be better. Doesn't seem as fresh and tasty as it used to be although i still love the guac. What makes me avoid coming here more often though, is when you walk in the front door there is always a bunch of hostesses standing around the doorway talking with each other. It is so incredibly awkward- no one addresses you, just looks you up and down while they continue to giggle with each other making you feel totally uncomfortable and you have no idea what to say or who to talk to! So you end up just randomly shouting the number of people in your party. Then you get seated and the hostess goes right back to chatting by the front door. That is literally all these people do- maybe if they didn't pay so many people to stand around the front door of an already very small entry way they could lower the prices of the entrees! I also wish the had some specials or something as the menu really hasn't changed except that the portions are smaller.

Place sucks... $10 for a little serving of guacamole . Had the rudest waitress named joselyn. Didn't even bring us our food. Food needs salt which we had to ask for. Overall atmosphere is ok. Parking lot is tight if you have a Big car. Food is pre packaged and not authentic at all... Never again

I give it 4-stars... Great appetizers and service, I did not have an entree here but based on the appetizers, did I mention that the bartender gave me a shot of Jamesones free...may have influenced my overall rating. Anyway, I digress....not bad...worth a visit.

This place should be closed down. Ordered a fiesta salad it was the worst thing I ate. Chicken was so dry I can choke and everything had no taste. Ordered mojito and tasted like they used a mix or a skinny mojito mix and no alcohol in it. The bf Ordered fajitas put it this way he only ate them because he was starving and didn't want to waste 17 dollars. Save your money stay away go to ponchos burittio!!!!

My friend raved about this place so we meet for dinner. So we ordered the guacamole to start. It was really great, to die for. Then our meals came out. The only thing I hate about Mexican food is that the food comes out so quickly but I have to say that the food was really good. I will be back.

Disgusting and overpriced! I had Drunken Sailor Fajitas and my husband had an enchilada. My meal was almost $20. I thought it would be delicious. My scallops were cold and chewy (not edible) and my shrimp had a weird taste to it. It didn't come with onions and peppers either. I had 3 shells and a little mango salsa and spinach. They also gave me canned unrinsed black beans and bland rice. My husband didn't like his, or the beans. Our conclusion, it looks like a nice place to drink with awful food. Save your money and time.

We go here quite a bit (especially since we are literally a block away). Good margaritas. They also have some Hendricks/Cucumber thingamabob that is quite tasty. Food is decent. I love the salmon over salad. Chips are addictive and their salsa is pretty good as is their guac.

Fuck this place! Awful experience cinco de mayo, bartenders pretended to put tequila in my margarita but the bottle was empty. Kid bartender was so drunk he either didnt realize or was trying to screw me. When I confronted he said of course he put tequila in even though there was clearly not enough in the bottle to fill the shaker for the 3 I ordered. When seated at the table for dinner had a great waitress who was much better and took care of us very well. Hire hontest bartenders!

Wow.....just came home from this pathetic excuse for a restaurant. Only one other time was I this disappointed in my dinner and how much it cost to eat with my daughters. This place looks decent, the hostess was nice and the service was ok, but after that it was all downhill. We all ordered fajitas, pretty easy and hard to really mess up. Everything on the plate was cold except the nasty retried beans which were at an inferno temperature and served with the crust build up that forms after sitting in the steam table since lunch, but it was the only thing keeping some warmth at all to whatever was touching it on the plate. The rice was cold, and horrible, the meat was lathered with some red paste like substance and was very chewy, cold and very small portion compared to the cost $17.95. The only thing on the plate that we ate was the meat and maybe one tortilla each. The tortillas that accompany the fajitas should be at least a little warm and kept in either tin foil or a bowl with a lid, neither was the case here, they were served cold and folded on a small plate, right out of the plastic bag. The bill came to $65 plus $10 tip, so $75 for garbage! Next time I'll save my money and go to Moe's, fresher food, better quality, and a hell of a lot cheaper... And yes, I an comparing a Mexican fast food joint to this place and prefer the fast food.

A nice little Mexican restaurant in an area without a lot of options makes for a great lunch spot during the week. I have been twice now with one experience being better than the other, but do believe I will be back for an occasional visit in the future. The positives: Sit down restaurant for non-fast food Mexican Indoor and outdoor seating, which is nice in the summer time Chips and salsa = yum! Lots of burrito options The negatives: I ordered the empanadas off of the appetizer menu, and they were tiny and dry. I was expecting something home made, but this looked like it came out of a box in the freezer section at the local A&P. Prices with a large group can add up quickly. Outdoor seating is great, but can be a bit miserable on super hot days. Sunshine and flies = ugh

Delivery took over 1 1/2 hr. Food was cold and soggy. Chicken buritto was all rice, no chicken. Very disappointed !!

I was excited to try this place as a recommendation from a co-worker on a work trip. Dining solo, it was disappointing to feel unimportant as a single diner. No one checked on me, I had to flag someone down after awhile to get my check, etc. that aside, the food was really good. They had a lot of vegetarian options. I started with the veggie chili that was great and I had the Vegetarian Burrito Nopales that were awesome. I had never had Nopales (cactus), so it was fun to try. Margarita hit the spot too. But $8 for a house one.

First time posting a review but I felt compelled. Our family of 5 (3 little ones) occasionally goes to the Blue Moon in Wyckoff where we have had very positive experiences. We tried the Woodcliff Lake location a few months ago and it just wasnt the same experience - mostly because of the service. We decided to try it again, on Labor Day 2014, and it was only worse. Im giving them the benefit of the doubt because maybe they were short staff with the holiday, but there are ways to work around that. It was chaotic, slow, and random. I still am not sure who our server was but I tipped them nevertheless. Servers would come by occasionally to drop off someone's drink or food and immediately hightail away as if to avoid anyone asking for something. And then when just about everyone seated was equally puzzled, a waitress came by, walking past empty glasses of water among other things, asking ever so sweetly if anybody needed extra crayons. Extra Crayons? The staff sorely needs to regroup here.

Place used to be great. I don't know what is going on there. Portions getting smaller, waiters getting annoyed when you ask for something and tables are uncomfortably together. Besides the bartenders, this restaurant is not what it used to be.

Definitely Tex-Mex, but tasty Tex-Mex. I agree with others who thought it was overpriced, which really kept me from giving it 4 stars. I understand it was a busy Friday night, but I felt kind of rushed to leave by the pressing crowd waiting for tables. To sum it up, I would happily join if I were invited out here with friends, but I probably wouldn't think of it to suggest if I were making the plans. To drink, I had a frozen mango margarita, and I thought flavor and strength were both spot-on...not too sweet. For my entree, I got the Jungle Chicken, described as "chicken breast sauteed in our delectable honey lime sauce and topped with an array of mangos, black beans, plantains and avocado, served with grilled vegetables and Mexican rice" on the menu. It was extremely tasty, and if I went back, I would definitely order it again. It's a unique dish, and the combination of flavors was just right (I'm sure Goldilocks would agree). I highly recommend this dish if you go to Blue Moon.

Yes, Blue Moon is certainly overpriced ($9.95 for guac and chips?!?), yet I continually find myself returning over and over again. Dine in, take out - I just keep doing it. Sure, it's partly due to its proximity to my house, but there's something else. Before I quit on meat, I loved the Smokey the Bearito - I don't even mind saying it aloud. Holler at the gouda and refried beans!! As a noob vegetarian, I'm obsessed with the taco salad topped with veg chili - scrumptious!!! I also cannot get enough of the chips. Honestly, I do not often order the margaritas or any other drink. Since the price is high to begin with, I just get angry when the drinks jack up the price more. Usually, for a two-person dinner, we come in around $28 without tip. Last but not least, Kito is our favorite waiter!!

Had "The Moon Plate" (burrito) to go. Food was alright, but a bit bland for me. Overall, the serving size was decent and definitely got me full.

One of the best Mexican resturaunts in the Bergen County area. I do not know what is better... their food or drinks? Blue Moon has a HUGE variety of Mexican drinks and food, which I have tried many of both and LOVED all! Every time I go, I like to try something different than the last. Thus far my favorite are the Pomegranate frozen Margarita and the chicken quesadillas.

They call this Mexican food? Not sure I would call it Tex-Mex! Food is under-seaasoned, overpriced and service slow.

If you're thinking about ordering the Triple Play Burrito. You're asking for trouble! My Burrito must've weighed 10lbs. Friendly Customer Service, tasty chips. Woodcliff Lake in Pascack Valley is a perfect locale than their Englewood restaurant.

I would think this place would at least have a full 3 stars. It's nothing spectacular, but it's within about 5-10 minutes from my house, and it's a really cozy place to catch up with someone while simultaneously satisfying a guacamole craving. Up until this past August, I hadn't been here in years, so I'm basing my review off of my last two (but mainly my last one) visit/s. Most recently went here with my mom this past Friday. First off, I have to say this place turned me into a margarita lover! They're made perfectly here. Because I'm about 70% vegan, I brought my own vegan cheese and asked our waitress if my quesadilla could be made with that instead of real cheese, and she obliged with a smile and no problems whatsoever. Really appreciated that. It was good, but I mean..how can you screw up a quesadilla? Mom and I had a lot to chat about, so we were there for about 3 hours, well after we had finished our meals and were only drinking Mexican coffee (mom) and another margarita (me). Although every table there was filled, we did not feel rushed to leave. The atmosphere is okay, but it'd be nice if they had candles, if not on each table (since there's generally not much extra table room when you have chips and all that), at least around the restaurant. Not a fan of how many young families with little kids come here, but hey, guess they gotta eat too. Lol. The music (at least when I've been there) is a mix of older disco and soul songs from the 70s and 80s by artists such as Stevie Wonder and Donna Summer. While I happen to love this kind of music, I think it'd be fun if the place played Mexican or Spanish music a little more (or at all). Oh, random, but if you're a chick you'll appreciate this: I also really like how the ladies room was actually quite clean! It's nice not having to go into a public bathroom automatically bracing yourself for how gross it's going to be. Overall, while I had a great time and would come back, nothing wows me about the place, which is why I'm only giving it 3 stars. I have to feel a litttttle wow factor to give something 4 stars. =) But I would recommend Blue Moon if you're in the area and have a hankering for guac, chips, and margs.

I come here about once a week for my burrito fix. The prices aren't expensive per-say but if you are comparing to something like Chipotle or Moe's then yes, it's pricier. Can't speak for everything on the menu but I often enjoy anything from the burrito section and the churros were pretty good the one time I tried them. Never really had a problem with service or food being bad. However I will say that sometimes the wait can be ridiculous at times and I definitely can not recommend the white sangria because it tastes like wine with lemon juice. This restaurant has the potential to be a lot better so my recommendation for the kitchen/staff: please make sure food is hot and cheese is in the "melty" state while bringing meals out. Also, napkins.. we're eating burritos for Christ's sake! We need more than one napkin per person and this would probably prevent me stealing napkins from another table's place setting

Bartender service was horrible, for the fact they didn't even acknowledge me. After 5 minutes I left.

We thought this place would be authentic Mexican food but got the complete opposite. The wings were horrible. They were served with watered down blue cheese and cooked until they dried out. I ordered fajitas that were served cold and dried out on a cold plate with old tomato sauce poured on top. I was served 1 chicken breast. I lost my appetite at that point and couldn't eat. The fajitas cost $17 . My husband had a combination platter of one taco and one enchilada, which cost over $11. He only ate it because he didn't want to be rude but the taco shell was soggy so he ate it with a girl. It seemed like our server forgot about our food and it sat in the kitchen for a while. We did notice that all the workers were sitting at a table together laughing and having a great time while our food turned cold and dried out in the kitchen. I would not recommend this place to eat. And I will NEVER bring my family here again. $85 dollars lesson!!!!

Burrito-heavy menu, black bean soup simply seemed to be black beans served with entrees. Would suggest mole chicken enchiladas and Cadillac (top shelf) margarita (house margarita is really subpar).

I love traditonal Mexican food. This is American Mexican, very good but authentic? Paleeeze... Food is tasty, nachos are served quickly and warm, Build-a-Burrito is huge and well worth the price. The beans are a bit bland but most dishes are satisfying. Matron-D at the door is icy, not friendly at all, but not rude either, just "matter of fact!" Waitresses are a bit slow for such a small place (I see them yaking at the bar while the table next to me awaits drink refills.) Overall, worth the trip and the reasonable price.

High anticipation fizzled with smoky bar, tight quarters, and lackluster food. Good marks for the Full Moon Wings (good heat) but main courses were chunky, heavy and lacked any flavor but cilantro. Felt sorry for waitress, who had many tables to work. Didn't stay for dessert. Won't go back.

Good first time experience but I wouldn't necessarily go back. I'm not sure why. It's pretty much average all over but nothing special.

The food here is okay. I enjoyed the nachos, but the black bean soup tasted like pureed canned beans with just a tiny hint of spice. A margarita on the rocks arrived very watered-down (I expected more for a $13 drink). Chicken burritos were pretty good, with tender meat, but the guacamole needed salt. We took our two small kids, and the waitstaff were very friendly and accommodating. From now on we will be getting our Mexican fix via take-out from Cinco de Mayo on Broadway. Cheap and delicious.

We order lunch from this place at least once a month! I like their chicken fajitas and empanadas.. Ensalada Rancheros is a favorite among the team! We always do takeout or delivery. If order is placed before 11:30a, delivery is quite fast.. delicious chips and salsa! Lunch menu is much cheaper!

I enjoy taking my family to Blue Moon -- we have always gotten our food very quickly (which is something my kids LOVE), and having the chips to snack on in the meantime is great, usually they are still warm and always crisp. The double or triple combination platters are really good deals. It's also nice to be able to pick and choose the combination, although I generally go for the enchiladas. Always have had tasty meals (even the mexican-type pizzas are a nice change of pace!). The dining area IS a bit tight and loud, but there's not much they can do about that, it happens to be popular and it's better than waiting forever for a table.

The Classic Moon Nachos are one of my favorite, if not my ultimate favorite, nacho dish around. Washing it down with a Margarita on the rocks makes for a nice dinner out here. But, thanks to their take-out / delivery services available, you can make our own at home if you want! And you might want too if you tend to get claustrophobic in small places. The compact dining area might make some uncomfortable. On a weekend evening, it's tightly packed with regulars, families, kids and parties of 5 or more. Even the bar area is tiny. We opted to drink AND eat at the bar, which I suggest if you don't feel like enduring the inevitable weekend wait. I believe they take reservations. Also, weather permitting, they have a nice outdoor dining area. The bar is too small to have anymore than 2 bartenders serving at once, which for a Friday night, is a little ridiculous in my opinion. They probably average a margarita per minute. We were initially neglected, but eventually greeted and served our drink orders quickly thereafter. It took a little while longer to get our food order in, but once we finally did, the food came out fast. And we had been given the staple chips & hot salsa to munch on in the meantime. The chips are terrific! Timely refills offers were made, and I got my food wrapped up quickly at the end of our meal. We were in and out in a little over 45 minutes. Not bad, but the next time I have a Moon Nacho craving, I may simply order out.

Visited Blue Moon with Hubby early this evening. The waitress was friendly enough. Ordered a Mango Mai Tai & she was shocked I was not having a margarita. Cocktail was drinkable but nothing to remember. We ordered a combo platter to share & received it within 5 minutes of placing our order. I like good service but can I enjoy my cocKtail a lil first. FoOd was ok, again, nothing memorable. The worst part however was the staff's repeated visits at our table asking us if we were done w/in minutes of recg food. The place was not overly crowded, we were seated at bar table in the bar area and there was always an empty table while we were TRYING to enjoy our food & conversation, however, the continuous presence of waitstaff asking if we were done and almost taking our plates away while we were eating was intrusive and rude. Hubby finally told a waiter we would be a while and would let them know when we were done. Mind you we were ordering drinks and beers while we ate. In fact I decided to try their "famous" margaritas & asked for premium tequila not the happy hour one and they still insisted on chasing us out of there!!! Were they afraid we would skip out on the check? Were we seated at a special table designated for VIPS? What gives? The food was mediocre the overpriced margarita was full of sour mix and the mai tai tasted mediciny. Don't know why this place is continuously on Bergen's Best list but I have def had much better, better food, better drinks & better service.....NEVER AGAIN

I have been here a bunch and continue to order out/dine in. It's ok Mexican food, definitely not the best I have ever had but for Happy Hour $4 sangria and tasty chips and salsa, its a solid deal. The "Gigantic" quesadilla is more on the small side and some dishes are pretty pricey considering what you actually get.

The most overhyped restaurant! The food is miserable as is the staff. Chicken wings must be cooked once, refrigerated and then reheated as they are dry, chewy and foul tasting. The tortillas taste like they have freezer burn. If you order a "create your own" burrito be prepared for a mostly rice filled item with very little "create your own". Even the drinks are terrible. Update 5/8/15 My daughter insisted on Mexican and I went along. Nothing has changed as the food and service are still awful, the floor is still filthy. They are so lazy they even use Chili for their Tacos! What did crack me up though is the comment card with the check which reads; "We really, really want to hear your opinion!". Apparently they only want to hear the good as the only options to check off are "Good", Very Good" or "Excellent"!!!! And of course my daughter ended up getting pasta with butter!

There are a few different Blue Moon Café locations and a full list of them can be found on their website, as well as a full menu, and other pertinent information as well. Although we have been to other locations, on this occasion we decided to go to our regular Blue Moon Café in Woodcliff Lake. We did not have to wait for a table, but we did arrive slightly later than usual. On a Friday or Saturday night a short wait is to be expected. As soon as we took our seat a waiter brought over a basket of fresh tortilla chips and a bowl of some of the best salsa that I have ever eaten and took our drink order. The salsa is tangy but not too spicy, just the right amount to get your taste buds bouncing in preparation for the meal to come. I know, most Mexican restaurants offer free chips and salsa as an appetizer, but this salsa is really spectacular and needs to be given the props that it deserves. Most places try to pass a bland, drab, soupy salsa that looks and tastes like it came right out of a five gallon bucket. Blue Moon's Salsa is anything but, with big chucks or vegetables and a taste that always has is asking for another serving. Unfortunately, this is not a, "bring your own bottle establishment", which hurts their value score a bit, but they do offer a full bar which will create any cocktail you could wish for. I suggest one of their many specialty margaritas, which are served in a large glass with a decent amount of alcohol and a large amount of flavor. The good news is that although they will charge you per alcoholic drink, the non-alcoholic beverages are endless, which comes in handy after you pour a bunch of hot sauce on your meal and dig in. As you were reading the descriptions, I could hear your thoughts of disbelief. As a foodie, I to have been lied to by a menu's description that promises portions using adjectives that are not quantifiable such as giant, huge, gigantic, or massive, but this is not just another white lie by the Mad Men. I know this is a cliché, which I really try to use in my writing; The Blue Moon Café serves colossal burritos that are literally the size of my arm. Due to this fact, it is very hard for me to order anything else when I eat here. Occasionally, I force myself to switch it up, but if you are going to eat here for the first time, do yourself a favor and make the first thing you try one of their many different burritos, I assure you, you will not be sorry. I always get defeated by The Legendary Blue Moon Burritos, which is no small feat for any food going against my gullet. With boxed leftovers in hand we left Blue Moon that day for a total of $58.42, which is just under my target price of $20.00 per plate. The Blue Moon Café is a must for any Mexican Food Junkie in Bergen County!

The moon is definitely worth giving a shot, But I'm not so sure about a second visit. If you are that gung ho about good Mexican food you should consider going to the city or over the border to Rockland County. Moon makes up for their obvious lack of quality by giving you a whole lot of food And guessing you up on salsa and chips before. Got to give them points for originality though, I'm surprised they been able to stay business and a lot that has been historically the death touch for restaurants.

Need a Saturday night out and you have a screaming baby? This is a great place for a family night out. As a cautionary point, the Woodcliff Lake Blue Moon is much more family-oriented than the Englewood location. You can take a family to either location and have a great night; however, the expanded Englewood location is built to accommodate a great after-work crowd, while the Woodcliff Lake location has a much bigger dining area than bar area. The food is uniformly good Tex-Mex. Service is helpful and efficient. The kitchen can get backed up; however, the food is well prepared and the extensive drink menu, chips and salsa provide ample distraction. The decor is a bit dated, but you're not there for ambiance. The location can be loud, but it doesn't detract from the meal.

I have to step up and give Blue Moon a full blown 5 star rating. I eat here with my parents a lot and I think the food is GREAT. The only thing I've never really been that happy with are the crab cakes (I mean, we aren't in Maryland, so I'm not really sure what I was thinking with that. ANYWAY.) It is true about the noise level and children - if you hit it at a time where children will still be awake it is best to avoid the main dining area. Yet the bar is cramped. Hmm...dilemma. But I repeat, the FOOD is GREAT, so give it a try! PS Delivery is a good option too. Friendly + fast service!

Based upon how crowded the restaurant was on a Thursday night I expected to really love my meal, but everything about this place was average. The staff was ok, the apps were ok, my fajitas were ok at best. Can't see myself going back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
